126 days later… He sits

You may recall an article I wrote back in December that was called, “5 weeks and Still Standing.”  To sum it up, Cody Rivers loves the water and especially bath time from the day he was born.  Then on a mysterious Thursday evening on November 15, 2015 he decided he would no longer sit in the bath tub and only stand.  Since then we tried many different ideas with hopes to get him to sit again while bathing.  All of which failed.

Weeks and weeks have passed and we diligently would try every single evening during his bath time but with no luck.   These are times I wish I could just ask him and actually do but he just gives me this look like, “One day I will tell you Mom.”

Earlier this week, my Mom and I were having a cocktail watching Cameron and Cody jump in the trampoline and I was taken back by how much trust Cody has for his big brother.  Cameron would cradle Cody and jump really high and fall to his seat and holler, “body slam” like if we were watching an 1980’s Friday night wrestling show after Dukes of Hazard would air!  Cody would just giggle and say, “ga, ga, go” telling his brother to do it again!  At that moment I told my Mom, I am going to put Cam in the bath tub tonight with Cody and see if he will sit together.  Keep in mind, I had already tried myself but had zero luck.

I drew the bath water and had Cam take him in by his self to the bath tub.  My Mom suggested that we watch from a far and let them go in on their own.  So, we closed the bath doors and Mom and I peeked watching every step as Cam got in first his in boxers and had Cody step over the side holding his hand to follow him. That stinker sat on his brother’s lap and splashed the water with a vengeance  like he used his first 2 years of life!  As if he had been doing this just the night before!  We were so excited in fact my mom went and grabbed her iPad for a quick photo!  The entire bath time he sat about 50% of the time. I was convinced that Cam was going to need to join us for bath time again the next night.

It’s Spring Break week which I will blog another article later this week on but needless to say last night Cameron and I were camping and not home for bath time. Brad and Cody were home and after Brad put Cody to bed, Cam and I both received a text about the same time.  We looked on our phones to see this!

I asked Brad, “How did you do this? What did you say? Did you get in the bath together?”  He replied, “No, I just told him to sit.”  Brad and I both have been saying this to him EVERY SINGLE NIGHT since November 15, 2015. Why all of sudden he sits on March 10, 2016?

Autism is AUsome like that. So unpredictable with his learning yet so amazing to me at times when it clicks or as several reference to a piece of the puzzle.

18 weeks later on a THURSDAY night he decided to sit. Go figure.  The question is, will he sit in the bath tub tonight?  Will it be like 126 days never happened?
